Updates and Book Ramblings

I am clearly terrible at blogging this time around.

I honestly thought I was just on here the other day and now I look and it was OVER A WEEK AGO??

Things are good here. Bella is settling in here with her cousins. Lu as far as I know is ok- my old roommate hasnt given me many updates on him. He did get out of the house last week but wandered back to the patio a few hours later (I'm hoping because he knows where he lives but I also suggested to the old roommate that she put his litter box outside as the smell is suppose to help cats find their way home).

Work is going really well I think! I'm fairly confident in doing most things and my coworkers are all great about helping with things I'm not sure about. I did make a mistake a few days ago that came up today- but in truth I dont know if that was me or if it was because the computer had been acting funky that day.

I have been rereading Blood and Chocolate which is the only book to movie where I like the movie more! Scandalous I know, but I have some Thoughts on the Matter.

The Book and the Movie are both good- let me just say that right now! Both address issues that are different in human vs werewolf standards but are still tricky subjects.

Be warned there are going to be some Spoilers Ahead!

Quick summery of each so that things make a bit of sense if you are unfamiliar and dont mind spoilers.

Book- the pack used to live on a large plot of land far from humans. They were found out do to one person's bad dicisions. Their home burned and Vivian's father- the former pack leader- died in the fire. The pack relocated to a city in Maryland for the time being. The pack was falling apart and a trial to decide who will be the new leader. Gabriel wins as male alpha and Vivian unknowingly becomes female alpha when her mother is attacked. Vivian wants nothing to do with Gabriel and is dating a mortal boy. She tells him about her around the same time that a string of murders start. Aiden-the mortal boy- flips sh!t and she ends up more or less falling in line with the pack must stay with the pack.

Movie- Opens the same. Their home was burned though both Vivian's parents died. She goes to live with her Aunt Astrid in Romania. Gabriel is pursuing her throughout- Rafe does as well (Astrid's son in the movie).Vivian meets an artist, they sneakily date. The pack seems to know and disapprove but they dont seem as negative as in the books. There's a murder of a mortal woman. The safety of the pack is threatened. Huge dramatic final battle and instead of Vivian becoming alpha female second to Gabriel like in the book SHE becomes alpha and starts making changes to bring the pack into a more accepting and open age.

The main thing I have is how Vivian and Aiden handle his finding out that she is a werewolf. In the book Aiden is all about the occult and learning about what else there is in lift beyond the cookie cutter life of his parents. Vivian believes that he will be accepting and open to her telling him that she is a werewolf. He is COMPLETELY the opposite. In the Movie he freaks out a bit at first but accepts her for who she is. In both the book and the movie her family, the pack, is all about keeping themselves separate from humans because they are dangerous. Her family refers to him multiple times are "meatboy" in the book. In the book it is emphasized that she needs to stay in the pack both throughout and at the end. in the movie the pack doesnt like him but there is potential of them being open to him. They support her and by extension if not accept tolerate him. At least that is what the final scene seems to imply to me.

The other major problem I have with the book vs movie is Gabriel. It was stated multiple times that according to pack law both he at 24 and Vivian at 16 are legal adults. In the movie both of their ages where updated so that they were adults by mortal standards. But the age difference between a twenty something and a thirty something (or early forties I wasnt sure) is hella difference than a high schooler and a man who has been out in the world and supporting the entire pack. But the book repetitively pushed them together. The movie did as well but there was still more respect to it ultimately being her choice.

Astrid in the book vs the movie is also a bit of a problem. In the book she is vying with Vivian and Esme (Vivian's mom) to be the alpha female going as far as to sneak attack Esme. Astrid is the mother of one of Vivians agemates- one of the boys around her age in the pack. But she takes up a relationship with one of the other boys Vivian's age-Rafe (her son in the movie-dont think about who decided that idea).  In the movie they COMPLETELY change her character making her maternal to Vivian and spending the entire time panting (pun intended) after Gabriel. I'm not saying I liked the book version of her but she was a central character and important to the plot. Changing her personality and her plot took away a good chunk of the book's plot.

Overall I could have written this a lot better. I should have. They are both wonderful pieces and deserve more than my late night ramblings. I will try and edit this later.
